The Apple

What We Thought

The movie that started it all. This was the movie that Carol first suggested I watch, and that started this project that has lasted for 3 years now. This 1980 musical was written and directed by Menahem Golan, better known as one of the co-founders of Cannon Film Group, and Golan-Globus productions. The best way I can describe this film is imagine someone took a relatively large dose of mushrooms, and then read all of the Milton they could get their hands on. Then, after sobering up, that person tried to tell somebody else what happened in the Milton books. Now imagine that second person decided to make a musical about the demented conversation. That would be The Apple. Released in 1980, with a budget of 10 Million and a 92 minute run time, this PG Musical has an astronomical 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Catherine Mary Stewart, George Gilmore, and Grace Kennedy. One piece of trivia: After the release at the Montreal World Film Festival, Golan actually considered throwing himself of a building (not a joke). He had invested 10 million in the film, and really believed in it. He never understood all of the negative reviews.
